William Menelaus 1818-1882 Engineer and Steel Pioneer

Menelaus

Just before Christmas 2018, a deputation visited Penderyn to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of William Menelaus’s, our founder. The mission was to present a plague about Menelaus to Richard Noble, Landlord of the Red Lion in Penderyn. Menelaus has a modest grave in the church yard, outside the pub, along with many of the local good and great of the area. The deputation also had the opportunity to visit St Cynog’s, to see the fine stained glass window, marking Menelaus’s death.

The Red Lion proved to be quite excellent and a visit perhaps to read the plague is well recommended.
