This book charts the major events which have shaped the institution known until recently as the University of Glamorgan. The founding of the School of Mines (the University’s earliest identity) coincided with some of the most major historic events to impact on South Wales: the Senghenydd Mine Disaster and the lead-in to the First World War. However, as life-changing as these events are, it is not only ‘big history’ or government policies which combine to make us, or organisations, what we are.
Of equal importance, and possibly more so, are the people who are the organisation. This book is the story of both the events and the people which made the University.
